Malachi challenges the spirit of nominalism which is prevalent in the peole of Israel. They are trying to get by with the bare minimum in their relationship with the Lord and he argues that God is worthy of our sincere and whole hearted effort. Likewise God desires us to not give into the temptation of nominalism but seek an honest and authentic dynamic with the triune God.
