The return of Jesus to his hometown of Nazareth is a disappointing story. Instead of being received as a notable person he is met by cynicism, disrespect and unbelief. The people of the town cannot believe that one of their own can actually do well - rather they are cold, indifferent, and hold him in contempt. The end result is that their closed hearts prevent Jesus from working powerfully in their midst. The question for us to consider is how do we respond to Jesus? Are we receptive or indifferent? Believing or unbelieving? Enabling or resisting to his potent presence in our lives?
