Jesus reminds his disciples that the path of discipleship is not about competing with each other in order to gain the first place. It is not about rank and privilege but service and love for others. Indeed to make his point Jesus holds a child in his arms and encourages his disciples to welcome and assist others even as he welcomes and embraces the child in his arms. In our power hungry world it is easy to lose sight of the peaceful message of Christ which is summed up by his words, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”
