The core question of the Gospel of Mark is 'How do we see Jesus?' Is Jesus mainly a great teacher? A wonder worker? Or, is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God? This question comes to an apex when Jesus asks his disciples the salient question, 'Who do people say I am?' (What label do people put on me?) He then follows the question by personalizing it 'Who do you say I am?' to which Peter responds insightfully saying 'You are the Messiah!' The whole Gospel is building to this point and by it we must give our answer - how do we see Jesus? Who is Jesus to us? Is he simply a great historical figure or is he the way to abundant eternal life?
