John concludes the seven “I Am” statements with Jesus’ words, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine-grower.” In this image Jesus points to the fruitfulness that is evident in our lives as the Creator of the Universe works his creative powers within us. The Father prunes us, cares for us, shapes us, so that we become healthy individuals full of his love and compassion. Indeed, we become Jesus' instruments so that the kingdom of God comes to full maturity.
