Jesus concludes the seven ‘I Am’ statements of the Gospel of John with the powerful assertion that we are his friends. We are not simply disciples – we are his friends. As his friends we are to value the things he values and walk in the ways he walked. Such an appellation reminds us of the elevated calling we enjoy as Beloved of God.
