Jesus calls us to ‘repent and believe the Gospel that the kingdom of God is drawing near’. Such a proclamation is an invitation to move beyond the boundary lines of our own comfort and convenience and take a risk in following our Lord.
Jesus models such an adventurous spirit in the choosing of Matthew, the tax-collector, to become his disciple and in his contrary interpretations of the fasting and Sabbath regulations. May we also be courageous in our alignment with Jesus so that we step out of the world’s parade and faithfully follow our Lord.
