The story of friends lowering their lame pal down to Jesus so he will be healed is one of the best in the Gospels. I am not sure how the owner of the disheveled house felt with all of the dirt and dust flying around but the story certainly garners our attention. I have been impressed specifically by the emphasis on the faith of the paralytic's friends. The man is not healed because of his own fervent faith (does he even have faith?) but because of the perseverance of his friends to get him to Jesus. Perhaps this story can be a prod for us as we walk with others through this season of Lent. Who can we help lower down through the ceiling (metaphorically) so they might receive the touch of Jesus?
