As we travel through Lent we hear the stories of how Jesus’ family, critics, and disciples respond to his burgeoning ministry. The reactions of these groups range from confusion to rejection (on the part of his family and the religious teachers) to a listening heart as revealed in his band of disciples.
The question for us is, how do we receive the person of Jesus? Do we become his brothers and sisters and members of his true family? Or, do we keep Jesus at a distance so we can pursue our own interests and desires? What is the nature of our discipleship becomes our critical question.
